Night vision goggle OVN-1
for helicopter crewmembers
The military night vision goggle OVN-1 is advanced high-performance night vision system. This device is widely used for night helicopter flights at low level of natural illumination as well as for other functions. Night goggle OVN-1 is set up as binocular system with using two electrooptical transducers of 3 generation of biplaner type with 18mm photocathode possessing high spectral sensitivity and a built-in system of automatic brightness adjustment when changing lighting conditions. Military goggle OVN-1 allows observing surroundings and reading instruments without rearranging the goggles on a pilot's head, that is ensured by special features of design for OVN-1 mounting unit on a flight helmet. Light-weight design of the device has high mechanical strength and reliability. The goggle developed considering ergonomic requirements are convenient for performing aerobatics within long-term flight time in any flight conditions. Two power supply systems - a helicopter bus (27V) and an independent system (from two AA alkaline batteries) are provided to increase reliability. Military goggles OVN-1 mounting design can be used on different flight helmets of 3CH7V type.
